Very frustrated with United Airlines in many ways. With a delayed flight that caused us to miss an entire day and a half of our trip due to rebooking us on another flight, we made it to our gate a small seven minutes after the door closed. Plane was still there. We were unable to get on our flight from Houston to Auckland. They knew we were coming and had a delayed flight. They should’ve prepared somebody at our entering gate to take us to our exiting gate. Every other person that had an issue with the delayed flights seem to be given vouchers as the hotel we went to and paid out of pocket for. Everything with United was a was with lack of communication in order to be able to track and book meals or upgrade seats or anything related to that. Our experience with Air New Zealand staff in Houston was phenomenal. We wished we would’ve been able to fly air New Zealand back from Auckland to San Francisco Instead of United due to service alone. The whole entire process and trying to communicate with United staff and booking agents, etc. was very very difficult and truly unable to be found especially when booking with a third-party.

Long delay when actually boarding, partly because they had to change aircraft due to a faulty APU. The replacement aircraft had been standing in the sun all day and the crew hadn’t run the AC long enough to cool the cabin down, so it was absolutely baking inside. Because we had to wait a long time for boarding to complete, we were sat in an extremely hot cabin for a long time, having to strip down our children to stop them over heating. It would’ve been better for them to announce a delay and cool the cabin prior to boarding.
