We had a confirmed reservation #K49900528F4. Our flight from SFO landed in DSM at 8pm and we got the counter and it was closed. What kind of reputable company closes the airport counter at 6pm???? There was no way for us to pick up the keys. No alternatives and there was no prior alerts or updates that this was going to happen. We were to travel to Iowa City that night and ended up taking a Uber that cost us 170$+tip since we had no option inspite of a confirmed reservation. All the other car rental places were open in the airport and they did not have any cars either. They also emphasized that Hertz DSM was the only company that closes at 6pm each day. I will never book with them again. Disgraceful.

The employee at the Dubuque, IA Hertz (tall slim guy, with beard) was not friendly and very aggressive. His tune was rude and he was very confrontational. I was talking with him very politely but he would raise his voice for no reason. When I had asked if I could change my vehicle at pick up, he said he didn’t have any other option. Then when I started to probe more and pointed at the vehicles at the lot and asked if any of those were available, he denied. Eventually he said that he’d upgrade it for $50 dollars more, from a sedan to a jeep. When I asked why, he said it was because the upgrade was many levels up from what I had reserved as a medium suv. And then he said he would let me have the jeep. So essentially he didn’t tell me the truth at first and said all cars were reserved but then for a fee he upgraded to a jeep.

I received a call the day before saying they could not fulfill my reservation. After many hours spent of my time calling and arguing I was finally given a car. I don’t know how they can just cancel a persons reservation. I had no other way to get home.

Staff upon pick up was very competent but not very friendly. The same for drop off. Upon pick up the truck had a dent that was not disclosed to me before pick up. I tried to contact Budget to report and didn't get anyone to answer the phone so I left a message. The interior smelled very strongly of smoke with a perfume odor to try to mask it, almost intolerable. Thankfully the weather was nice and I could roll down the windows. There was a half eaten banana and half drank bottle of water in the bed of the truck. The truck itself was comfortable and easy to drive.

The agent gave me a very old car with multiple dents, a cracked windshield and a non-working rear wiper. When I asked for a road suitable car they refused to change the car. Budget needs to better maintain vehicles and not give customers junkers

Rate was less than half of what National would have charged me for a one-way rental. Car was not as nice, but I was more concerned with the rate for this trip. Budget customer service was excellent-- in and out very fast both pickup in Des Moines and drop off in STL.

The pickup was terrible. There was only one car in the lot—a convertible—and it had not been cleared of snow or warmed up at all. I was clearly the only customer for the day, it was a car unsuited for the weather, and yet no effort was made to make the situation more customer friendly. There wasn’t even an ice scraper—I had to “borrow” one from family who were dropping me off and frankly, were concerned for my safety.

Representative was very nice however, the car had a tire with a moderate leak (I had to add air twice in less than 24 hours), had no windshield washer fluid and windshield wipers were in dire need of replacing. I returned the car as soon as I could and didn’t accept a replacement car offered even though I had another 4 days I needed a vehicle.

I waited 90 minutes for a car for which I was already late by over an hour to pick up. The car I was given was a 2 seater tiny car and I had rented a mid sized car similar to a Camry. I got a Miata which was not an ideal vehicle for why I rented it. The gal at the counter was surly and rude.

Their computers were down so even though I was there on time, after serving me for 45 min (ie I was not in line) they were not closer to being able to print my contract. I’m still waiting for them to return my payment. They were unable to rent a car to me. I need a refund. Can you help me get a refund? (Weirdly, the same staff were renting for budget car rental and had no problems with that computer. However their budget cars were all taken so I received no car.)

I DID NOT SEE THIS INFO ON ANY TERMS & CONDITIONS, OR POLICIES. IVE SPENT HOURS TRYING TO RESLOVE THIS ISSUE SINCE FRIDAY. IVE CALLED KAYAK, CAR RENTERS.COM, AND PAYLESS AND STILL NOTHING. IM VERY UPSET ABOUT THIS AND THE LACK OF CUSTOMER CARE FROM ALL INVOLVED HAS BEEN SERIOUSLY DISAPPOINTING. I WOULD LIKE EITHER A REFUND OR TO BOOK A CAR RENTAL FOR ANOTHER TIME, OR HOTEL ROOM OR SOMETHING. $135 MAY NOT BE MUCH MONEY TO SOME BUT ITS ALOT TO ME AND MY FAMILY. WE SAVED FOR 2 MONTHS TO COME UP W THE EXTRA FUNDS TO GET THIS XAR RENTAL TO ATTEND A GRADUATION CEREMONY. WHICH WE COULD NOT ATTEND DUE TO NOT GETTING THE RENTAL CAR. SO AS YOU CAN NOW SEE IT WAS A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE.
