Reserved a full-size for JAX airport. My flight arrived early and rep at counter said she had no full-size available, nor any other car to give me, until if/when she received keys at 11 a.m. My nephew was with me and we had to drive to Palm Coast to make family funeral arrangements, so after a few minutes, we decided to wait on line again and ask if anything had become available. We spoke with a different rep who said he had a Ford Escape that was ready but that I would have to pay for the upgrade. We asked if a manager could override that and he said no. Because of the immediate nature of our family crisis, I had to take the Escape. As soon as my nephew and I got in the SUV, we were overcome with the odor of disgusting, unhealthy cigarette smoke. We opened the windows and then inspected the rest of the vehicle: clearly, it had never been cleaned. There were dirty shoe-prints all over the back seats, the trunk was filthy, and there were papers and other detritus in the driver's side door pockets. Because of our deadline, we bought an air-freshener and drove to P.C. with the windows open. That night, I called Cust SVC to lodge a complaint. My case number: 0230225398. P.S. Also had to buy windshield-wiper fluid because the dashboard alert was flashing that there was none. Again, that vehicle had never been checked or cleaned.
