I wasn’t able to retrieve my rental because it was paid though Affirm. They needed the credit card that was associated with the reservation. I couldn’t provide a card if it was paid through Affirm. So they wouldn’t let me get the rental and I was forced to cancel. I called customer service and the guy was talking about their terms and conditions. But had no answer when I asked why it’s not in the terms and conditions to accept a reservation through a payment plan company like Affirm knowing a credit card is needed upon pickup of reservation.

I paid $350 for a rental to go on vacation. My rental was not available upon pick and no other vehicle was available. I didn't get my money back for 4 days. If I reserved a car, it should have been there.

Only improvement could have been with their pricing. I ended up getting there 30min earlier than expected. Instead of saying no problem, I was told I need to drop the car off 30min earlier on return. They have every right to expect compensation for their product/services and if 30min is no big deal then the guy says well he's just 30min earlier than that (and this logic never ends) and Hertz could be out a significant amount of money. But it also took me more than 30min to go through the rental process, get the car, and leave the airport. It just seemed like the company wanted every $0.10 they could get. Maybe a little flexibility would have been better. Still no complaint.
I’m going to focus on the negatives. The biggest two negatives were: (1) it took over three hours before my rental car was ready; and (2) the electric car’s batter would not charge beyond 43%. When I made the booking and when I was checking in to pick up, it was clear that I was dropping the car off at the DCA airport, which is around 190 miles from the rental pick up. After being assured the distance of the car would be around 250 miles, I agreed to use the electric Chevy. However, because 43% charge only can go around 100 miles, I had to charge the car 3 times. Each charge time was about half an hour and charging ports aren’t that populous so it would take a fair amount of time to be able to even get to the port. Ultimately, what should have at most been a four hour excursion ended up being 8 hours.

The car was filthy and had roaches. It took a long time to get support on the phone. The drop off was easy and the drop off staff was polite and genuine about the car’s condition when I returned it to them.

At no point was I informed of an additional $244 required for an authorization hold. I paid for the vehicle upfront, through Kayak. My receipt from Kayak only stated an additional $44 was needed at pickup for taxes and fees. If you do not have the additional unknown funding for authorization, and use a bank card, they up it to $500 for the authorization hold. Without the additional unknown funds, you are unable to rent the vehicle. While dropping off the vehicle another customer was in tears over not having additional room on a credit card for the authorization.

AWFUL customer service. We arrived five minutes after they closed due to being stuck on the runway for an hour… I called from the runway to let them know we were coming and they’re only answer was that I could book a new booking for tomorrow, but there is nothing that they could do to call down and ask them to stay five extra minutes tonight… I had two young children with me so I could not just get an Uber and basically their attitude was that’s too bad you can just be stuck in the airport. AWFUL.

Did not even get a rental... i was turned away because the site did not have vehicles.
When I picked up the vehicle, it was so dusty/dirty on the outside that I couldn't safely see out the front window. The inside had tags everywhere from the last renters clothes shopping experience and strawberries which were molded and truly disgusting. I rented flor a week and throughout the week found clothes tags in every nook and cranny. Also the rear back right seat would not fold down which I didn't find out till I was hours away from the rental agency which made the trip significantly more difficult to negotiate luggage packing. The overall experience was great, the cleanliness of the vehicle is <1 star.

The door off person was very rude. There was not clear signage for where to park the car (no signage at all), but she was getting aggravated with everyone for where they were parking. The only words she said when she walked by was "leave the keys in the car."

I showed up with my reservation at 11pm and was told that the only car they had was a 12 passenger van. I showed the desk agent my reservation and she essentially said that it didn’t matter if I had a reservation they were out of cars. End of conversation. Would not, will not ever use Avis again. I was left stranded late at night after a long day of travel and had unapologetic terrible customer service on top of it. The nice gentleman at Enterprise told me this was a pretty typical experience. Buyer beware.

On 12/9 at the Norfolk, VA airport we were rented a car with significant damage on the rear passenger side, beginning with extensive scratching that went through the paint near the rear wheel and had smaller dents on the passenger rear and front doors. The car had clearly been in some accident but was rented to us in that unacceptable condition. Because it was dark when we rented the car and there was no one at the exit, no one saw the damage until we saw the damage the next day. We took photos when we discovered the damage. We called a main number for Avis since we could not get through to a local number at the rental location (Norfolk, VA Airport) and filed a report over the phone with Jennifer on 12/10. We pointed it out to the attendant when we returned the car to the Richmond, VA Airport (it was a one-way rental) and told him about the report we filed with Jennifer. It is irresponsible and unacceptable to rent anyone a damaged car and we will NOT be responsible for one penny of damage. Putting anyone in the position of worrying that they may be held liable is outrageous. SHAME ON AVIS!
Alamo has by far given me the best car rental experience, from cost, customer service, the whole 9, and from this day on will be my choice for rental services. Ps. I wish that they do pickups

But unfortunately you cannot rent a car without showing your credit card in person. Who knew. I can buy plane, train and bus tickets but I cannot rent a car. So I had to cancel.

Though I reserved a car and had all ID and Credit cards needed, they would not rent to me. Apparently recently moving affects my ability to rent a car. Agent told me I could Uber to an off site rental location, but not other resolutions were offered.

Agent for car pick up was quick, friendly, efficient. Same for drop off agent. Car had issues - low tire pressure light would not go off despite trying to fill the tire. Lights would not work on "Auto" so had to put them on manual. Got "Change Oil Soon" light during rental. One suggestion is to include a link to the vehicle's owners manual in the rental agreement, or e-mail the link to the customer. I had to search and search online for info that would have been in the owners manual.
Enterprise said a van was available. We booked it and called but the inventory is not the same at the store.

At least a month ahead of time I reserved a 15 passenger van to take children to camp. The day before I was to pick up the van, an Enterprise employee called to say that the van was not available. The employee offered no help to remedy the situation; she just kept saying, "I'm sorry for your inconvenience." I live in a rural area where the closest rental car agency is at least an hour's drive away. Though I didn't want to rent from Enterprise again, the Richmond, VA airport location had a van available. So I drove 2.5 hours one way to get it. That transaction, both pick up and return went very well. Except for the last minute cancellation, I was pleased.

I have a major credit card, but it don’t have $1,500 on it, so I couldn’t rent the vehicle I needed to go on my vacation. I was able to find an independent owner and the cost is less expensive then enterprise. For now on I will be using the independent company it’s no headache or hostile when renting a vehicle from them. Thank you but no thanks for future business with enterprise. I will be telling everyone about the company I use.
