When I arrived in Birmingham there weren’t any mid-size trucks available even though that is what I reserved. There was a larger truck available but it had not been cleaned. The Budget employee asked if I would be willing to accept the larger truck for the same price if he cleaned it quickly. I said yes. The truck was in great shape. It was exactly what i needed to help my son move in for college. The return was quick and simple and I very much appreciated that I wasn’t told I would have to choose another car. We worked together to get it fixed quickly and I was very happy! Thanks Budget!

Great truck, needs running boards to assist getting in.
I got out of line and went to Hertz. They got me in a car within 10 minutes. Agent was overwhelmed with requests and working solo with no help on a Sunday.

They scheduled me at 1 certain location for pickup at 12:00 on Saturday. We get there to pickup the car, and they were closed. We spend 30 minutes on the phone trying to reserve for another location. We ended up having to drive 20 minutes away to another location at the airport. Not only was this location going to charge me $200 MORE to rent a car, but the associate I had trying to “help” me was the rudest person I’ve encountered in a long time. He acted like he was mad that I walked into his place of work. He huffed and puffed everytime I had a question. When I asked why it was going to be $284 instead of the original $78 the other location was going to charge me, he said “because it is.” by the end of it I told him thank you but I would just go find another place to rent a car. He said “that would be great. Bye.” Horrible experience. 100000000% do NOT recommend this company.

The bad part: The staff member was in such a rush to clock out that they didn’t want to check us in with our rental and told me “you can go back in line and wait on her.” until the other staff (who was already busy with other customers) had to ask him to take care of us. So he grumbled through the process and gave me the keys to a truck without telling us we didn’t get the Camry or a car like we booked until we walked out there and realized it was a full size truck. Not the most comfortable ride back home when you’re expecting an easy to drive sedan. So basically staff interaction was not pleasant sums up the bad part of the experience. The good: It was easy to book online, the value for the price was competitive and the process of pickup and return was simple.

First car I was given had nonstop electrical problems. The CarPlay wouldn’t work and then ultimately an electrical failure rendered the car useless. After several hours, which caused me to miss a critical meeting, I secured a replacement vehicle. The lift gate on that one had to be forced open and closed. When I returned it, the attendant said, “they knew about that.” Won’t ever be using Avis again.

Hertz pick up location agent was NOT helpful. When I arrived he told me he had NO car for me to rent. I was able to get a vehicle only because of my luck and ability to work things out. A customer showed up to return a vehicle and I suggested to the agent he let me take that car. He allowed me to take the car without a full tank of gas and a dirty interior. I was late for a meeting and took the car "as is". This is no way to run a car rental agency.

I am active duty military traveling on permissive (unofficial travel) orders with my two kids, car seats, and luggage. I was unable to rent a car at the airport because I only had a debit card me and employee wouldn't accept my spouse giving credit card information over the phone. I did not have a return flight so employee told me to go to another Enterprise location across town and they wouldn't require return ticket info. So I Uber'd myself, kids, car seats and luggage ($40) to the across town location and was again denied service. Your employees were hemmed in by restrictive payment policies which left me, my small children, and luggage stranded at night, across town from the airport. My options at that time was to a) get another Uber ($40) back to the airport and try another rental car company or b) call someone at my final destination to pick me up...90 miles away. I chose the latter and had to wait 2 hours for someone to pick us up. If a major credit (not debit) card is absolutely required to rent a car, and there is no payment alternative then it should be acceptable to have a spouse call the counter to give credit card information over the phone. This scenario shouldn't happen to anyone, especially to an active duty veteran traveling with his kids to visit their wife/mommy stationed at another base. If I have to travel again and need a rental car, even for official duty...I will not select Enterprise. The employees were powerless to use their discretion to help me and contributed to leaving a family, with their valuables, stranded outside at night in a strip mall parking lot while they walked past me to issue cars to other customers. Shame on Enterprise.

Dollar at the BHM airport is basically nonexistent. There is apparently never any staff at the desk, there is no kiosk in the garage, and no one to help you figure out how to actually get your car. Avoid using Dollar here and just go for a bigger name rental company.

The vehicle I rented was in rough shape. The brakes weren't working well and it had body damage on it. Customer service was good at pickup.

The best thing about this experience was the Manager the next day. We got our car the first day, not the right one. Our car was sold/overbooked. It died within using the car within 20 miles. Had to get it towed, service rep said we would have to incur the costs? Making us freak out for a moment. Manager fixed it and gave us a car and it worked for the rest of the weekend. Very upsetting to have this happen and its a real shame.
