Apparently, the difference between and/or is something kayak and thrifty need to put a bit more effort into. The kayak website said the vehicle they reserved for me would hold 7 passengers AND 5 large bags while thrifty said this actually translated to 7 passengers OR 5 large bags (not sure why anyone would want this option... ever). So this venture would have cost me an extra $1000 if I wasn't good at haggling. It still cost me an extra $400 even with haggling and making a scene. Will not use kayak again in the future because I can't trust the language on the website to be correct. You've lost a customer unless you can make up for the bs I just had to go through in front of my wife and 2 teenage daughters AND the extra $400 paid.

We waited in line with 100 people to get the car at thrifty which was Prepaid through Priceline/Kayak. We stood in line for 1 hour and 30 minutes after being on a place for 6 hours. I was also charged $49.73 for Concession Fee Recovery, Customer Facility Charge and Motor Vehicle Lease Tax. I was under the impression that the cost I paid to Kayak/Priceline was the total cost. After this experience I went online and it seems that Denver Thrifty has a long history of horrific service and long wait times. This is the last thing someone wants to deal with after a long flight. In fact, this is also a reflection on Kayak and Priceline for partnering with such shabby vendors, who at this point, you must be well aware offers subpar experiences to your customers.

Worst rental car experience we have ever had. Wait in line to get to counter exceeded an hour. No one apologized or explained any delays. People behind us left and got an uber. Once we got to counter our credit card's magnetic stripe did not work. For a major company, they had no chip card reader and said they were unable to type the number in by hand. Not sure how that is possible. We had to use my wife's credit card but then she had to be the driver because the credit card was in her name. She had no need to be a driver so then they charged us a daily rate to add me as an extra driver. The rep and manager refused to even credit us the extra driver charge. All in all, an hour and a half of frustration. I will say we were happy with the actual car but will avoid Thrifty in the future as a result of the poor customer service.

After the airport shuttle dropped us off at the rental center, we waited approximately one hour and 20 minutes in line before receiving our car (we arrived at approximately 9:50am and rented our car at 11:09am). At the desk, the rental associate asked if we wanted to rent a toll collection device for $12.49/day. We had never been to Denver and didn't know whether or not we needed the device. The rental associate was not helpful and was rather short with us. She basically told us we could pay the extra fee for toll collection or risk paying a ticket/fine if we went through an electronic toll gate. We had no idea whether we would be going through a toll gate during our stay as we weren't familiar with the toll road system. We felt ambushed and without the information or time to make an informed decision. We ended up paying the fee to be safe. This may have been why the line was so slow at check-in as many (most) guests took longer to try to understand whether to pay the fee. This could have been avoided with clear communication of the potential need to pay for the toll collection system before check in or while in line whether through email or signage at the rental center. To make matters worse, the rental associate stated that the toll collection was based on the car's license plate number. We later discovered in the glove box what looked like a toll transponder that neither the rental associate nor any other staff told us about. We ended up paying the toll collection fee to Thrifty and still may end up with a ticket/fine because we did not know about the transponder in the glove box. The return process was also poorly managed. The signage wasn't very clear (granted it was night when I returned the vehicle) and no one greeted us at return or guided us as to what to do. We had to track someone down in an orange vest to ask them whether we should just leave the car unattended. Most rental car companies' staff will greet you and process you when you return the vehicle and then guide you to the shuttle waiting area.

This car rental experience was completely unacceptable. Though I had a reservation in advance, it still took well over an hour (1:20) from arrival at the Thrifty car rental building until we were on the road and traveling. There were only two visible employees checking people in, then to leave the lot, the entire waiting line was repeated to exit the lot with the vehicle through two staffed booths. For an airport the size of Denver, I expected 8-10 lanes open both at the rental desk and the parking lot. It was about as organized and efficient as a trip to the DMV in the 1970s. More than one frustrated customer tried to obtain better service from someone who appeared to be a manager; each stormed off in frustration. The car itself was okay, but had a slow leak from one of the tires that I had to fill twice during the week, and the windshield was filthy to the point that it was hard to see through when the sun was low. Both employees working the desk were friendly and helpful as was the attendant in the exit booth, and the employee that checked us back in but Jeez, what a horrible experience.
