Pick up was easy as all rental buses go to the same off airport building. Rental counter staff did not try to push extras, except for toll package as all tolls in Chicago area require IPASS per counter staff member…..this was not exactly true as you can pay on line within 14 days per toll signs. So we paid an extra $30. To FOX and only went thru 2 toll booths which would have cost a total of $2.00 vs her charging us $30…….that was our only complaint. Return was easy with nice staff.

I was charged more than double the cost that was quoted to me when I made the reservation. The only service I added was tolls, which is $20/day, and I had the car less than 24 hours. Now I need to take the time to call Budget and challenge the charges.

It was a good experience until I arrived at the drop off location and a clear scam by Budget was in the works. I arrived at 3255 W FULLERTON AVE, CHICAGO 60647 to return the car around 12:00-12:30 on the 19th July 2023. I was met by an extremely rude person who miraculously spotted in a nanosecond a tiny barely visible crack which can only be spotted under extreme scrutiny. He proceeded to write a damage report and started harrying me to sign some papers without offering any proper explanations with the added difficulty of him using nonsensical English. He was being extremely difficult to deal with and was brushing off any attempts by me at conversing with him when I showed him my disbelief at the claim he was forcing on me. The car was not damaged while under my possession and I have 6 people including myself who are witnesses and can attest to that. I immediately sensed a scam in the works when the person receiving the car was telling me I'm not the person who gave you the car at the pickup location, and asked whether I signed any papers detailing any damages to the car at the pickup location which I was not asked to do in the first place. I was instructed to pick up the car from the parking lot at location V20 at the rental parking lot in O'hare airport, present my license and rental agreement to the gate personnel who let me pass without any additional papers signed or presented to me. The keys were in the car and when I asked the Budget people in the parking garage whether I needed to verify any issues with anyone they told me to proceed to the gate and there was no need to see anyone. The behavior and narrative that the guy at the drop-off location was demonstrating proves that this is a well rehearsed scam whereby the rental company will try to levy any previous damages in the car and blame it and claim it from unsuspecting renters like myself who returned the car in the same exact condition that I received it in. I refuse to be bullied and will make this case public through all access I have on social media through my family, friends and businesses. I will ensure that this behavior by Budget (and all other companies that operate under the same umbrella) will receive as much negative publicity as it should, as I will do my duty to warn other unsuspecting would-be-renters of the devious ways among many that this company exercises in scamming people. I'm utterly disgusted by the behavior of their employee which only reflects the values or lack thereof which this company supposedly espouses.

I prepayed the rental - but now there is an additional charge to be withdrawn from my mastercard. At the Budget desk they needed my mastercard to approve an amount of 339 us dollars, when signing for the car in Chicago airport. I asked if it was a deposit - Yes, was the reply. Now Budget wants to take the amount of 339 us dollars from my account. That is very very unsatisfying

The lady at the counter at Chicago Ohare pickup fought me for 45 minutes and did not want to honor what we booked (in this case a 7 seater SUV). It wasn’t so much the make and model as these aren’t guaranteed but more so that we needed 7 seats which was guaranteed per our reservation. She told me multiple times they didn’t have any 7 seater vehicles. Finally, after 45 minutes, I got the car type that we reserved. She was rude and unpleasant. Would not recommend renting from Alamo in Chicago!

Lucked out with the pick up. No line at all, whereas other brands at the rental car center had massive ones. Not sure what that says about Alamo, but I was happy. Then, when I returned the car, something extraordinary happened. I had forgotten to refill the gas tank (after 200 miles of driving), and I mentioned it to the attendant (“I made an amateur mistake – failed to buy gas”). He thanked me for letting me know, and told me that he would take care of it. And he did. Saved me about $80! Can’t imagine that Alamo would want to do that on a regular basis, but it was a delightful surprise.

Good service at desk. In garage, the only employee present was not enough to service the many customers, he did his best polite and efficient but there ahould have been at least another person. At exit it was fast and easy. I am not complaining bout the person in garage, he was trying his best.

I was charged for an upgrade without being asked if I wanted an upgrade. I was charged for a full tank of petrol when I said I didn’t want that option(this was later refunded). The check-in agent was 100% on the hustle - unexpected from a ‘reputable’ company and after a long flight.

I had to queue for 2 HOURS to collect the car which in my opinion is unacceptable as I had a 3 hour journey ahead of me after an 8 hour flight. There were only 3 customer desks open, with a fourth added after an hour. Avis should have been aware of the number of cars booked for that day and had sufficient staff to deal with the numbers arriving. I had booked a Toyota Camry, which is what I got. The only complaint I had about the car was that I would have expected that this class of car would have built in Sat Nav. While it had the system no maps were loaded into it which was disappointing. (Fortunately I had brought my own SatNav but it would have been preferrable to use an inbuilt system). Due to the excessive delay I would not book a hire car from Avis in Chicago again.

I will never use Hertz again. Also I may never use Kayak again either because of what happened. I rented a car in advance and prepaid but had to cancel a month away from the pick up date. I had the booking for less than a week when I cancelled. Hertz/Kayak charged me $100! Terrible terrible and I will never forget. Steve

I pre-paid early and was told there would be a sign/board that would show where my car was so I could just walk to it and drive off. It took 15-20 minutes to pay the remaining balance (which I thought would automatically be done once I picked up the car), and show my DL and all that. Not a lot of time, but longer than expected. The car itself felt very cheap (small Kia), but it drove well and was clean.

The car was fine. The agent at the counter sold me a $25 fee to cover all tolls . I told her I was going to South Bend, IN today (Thursday) and returning Sunday. She said I was covered both ways. When I got to the Skyway, it didn't work. I was still in Illinois. The gate only opened when I used my credit card. The next toll booth, same thing happened. I also paid on the Indiana Toll Road at the South Bend exit. Refund my $25.

Enterprise always offers better service. On this rental, the guy offered me a choice of SUVs and (when I explained I was picking up my kid from college) said he could substitute a minivan at the same price. That worked better for me so I ended up in a nice, new hybrid minivan for the long ride.
