I made the booking online through Kayak/Priceline a few hours before I was due to pick up the car for a one way drop off Livorno to Bergamo Airport and received a Hertz confirmation number. However there was no one at the office when I arrived 20 minutes before closing time of 6pm. I texted the mobile number displayed and no reply. I then tried the Hertz online check-in to see if that gave me any more information. It didn’t. By now it was 1802 so I went to Europcar to ask for help who also tried to call the number as I did and I whatsapped the same. Now after closing time of 1800 and it not looking hopeful, they were very helpful in providing a car. Hertz did eventually reply to the call made by Europcar and then to me around 1837 to tell me that the reservation was not valid until I made the online checkin even though I had a Hertz confirmation number. The Hertz confirmation number meant nothing. So, going on what the local agent said above, the Kayak site/Priceline/Hertz doesn’t work. I had a confirmation from Hertz but there was no car or a person to speak to at th pick up. Thanks Europcar for saving the day.
