Our check in was awful. We had a 9am pickup time and at 9:45 they said it was be another 45 minutes. Then they up-charged us for a smaller vehicle that was ready and we couldn’t wait because we were traveling with small children that needed to get home for naps.
I don’t like the idea that I was not given the category of vehicle I was charged for. Can I have my refund?
The service that I encountered during pick-up was most likely the worst I had ever to endure. The Thrifty counter at OAK was closed and customers redirected to the Hertz section. At Hertz we saw two lines -- one for Hertz, the other for Thrifty/Dollar. The line on the Hertz section consisted of 2 people, the other line of 40!! Suddenly, the person assigned to book in Thrifty customers went for lunch (at 10am)!! We were waiting for over 2 hours. When we finally got the car and were leaving the parking lot, only one window was open, the lady at the gate completely incapable of dealing with all the cars, so it took us again 30 minutes to leave the lot. It should be embarrassing to an established rental car company as Thrifty to treat customers so badly. I hope you find a way to ask us for forgiveness. Best wishes, Vsevolod RAHR
Pros:We were able to pick up a vehicle that fit 6 people on time.
Cons:They didn't have our reserved vehicle, so they made us take a HUGE vehicle and charged us $50 more per day (we rented for 6 days, bringing our total to $400 more than we had agreed to pay in our reservation.) We didn't want to drive a vehicle that big, but had to do this or make our grandchildren wait at Thrifty for an hour to an hour and a half or more for a vehicle that we reserved to be turned in. We also felt abused as they didn't tell us about this pricey upgrade until we denied buying their insurance.
The wait to pick car up at San Francisco Airport was just under two hours-terrible!!! Everything else was very good!!! Drop off in Vegas excellent.
