First time using Hertz due to specific SUV requirements that our usual provider did not have available. Pick up was fine and smooth enough. We received the correct vehicle. After an hour of operation, it began producing oil service notifications that persisted the whole trip across country, though oil levels were fine. A previous driver must have had pets as their were flees present in the vehicle. Overall, it got us where we wanted and didn't break down. Fine. Return on other end of country was another matter. The Hertz return location was locked and unstaffed when we arrived at 10am. After waiting 20 minutes, we contacted phone support, who wanted us to take the car to another location (at our time and gas expense, of course). After explaining that wasn't going to work for us, their proposal was to lock the keys in the vehicle and we would be charged a "locked vehicle" fee for the privilege of returning the vehicle safely. After 45min the attendant returned; Hertz had sent him to take care of an issue elsewhere, leaving the location unmanned. After an hour ordeal to get the car returned, and experiencing alternately incompetent and price gauging phone customer service, I'll never use Hertz for a rental again. Just garbage.
