Car hires in West End, Saint Thomas Island

they could have cars there for me. and i got charged for the insurance on a car i did not get.

The drop off of the car after our rental was very simple. And we were glad to get a shuttle back to the airport very easily. HOWEVER: When we arrived to St. Thomas, getting to the car rental from the airport was a little bit crazy. The shuttle was not marked that it was the Dollar/Thrifty shuttle, so we did not know when or if it was arriving. The phone number listed with our reservation through KAYAK was not correct, so we were unable to alert the agency that we were at the airport and needed to be picked up. We ended up taking a cab the 1 mile from the airport to the rental agency and were charged $35! Then, though we had reserved our car pick up for 3 PM and arrived at 4:15pm there was no car available for us FOR TWO HOURS!! We did not get our car until 6:25 PM. Because we were staying on Saint John, we had to make the car ferry at Red Hook—Which was located 30 minutes away. We literally pulled up to the Car ferry as the LAST boat OF THE DAY was departing. We barely made it. Needless to say it was extremely stressful. All the while we were waiting, the staff kept telling us different stories as to the status of our car. There was no straight answer. Unfortunately we were not the only ones in this predicament. Several other families were waiting for hours for their vehicle. Making this even more delightful, was the fact that the facility is under construction, so the only place to wait was under a tarp in folding lawnchairs. It was hot and humid and dusty. I am typically an adventurous kinda person, AND I had prepared myself for “island time”, but this was a bit ridiculous.

We were charge twice what our online rental stated! Beware

Very slow check in Had reservation, but no car available Forced to pay $200 extra for insurance, because I didn't have my insurance policy with me

I did not get the car that I paid for and they lied to me about the insurance.

Car could be more clean.

When we picked up the car the attendant was very short with us and we could hardly follow what she was saying. This was the first time me and my new wife have ever rented a car and when she asked for us to pay we just used a debit card. We were than charged and extra 28 or so dollars a day because we didn't use a credit card, which wasn't mentioned until after she charged the card, and we weren't fully aware of this beforehand. We than asked her if we could switch our payment method to a credit card, which we had with us, to avoid the extra fee. She quickly and rudely respond that she couldn't do that for us since she already ran our card. Like I mentioned this was the first time we have ever rented a car and will likely be the last time we rent with Hertz unless we can somehow get this sorted out.

bought damage waiver at around $45/ day, then walked 10 mins to the car lot and shown the car for us that had major front and other damage to the car, then told by unrecognizable attendant that if I wanted a non-dented car I had to walk all the way back to the rental counter, the attendant was indignant about wanting to change out the car and could not believe it was that bad, then I showed her a picture and she then could say nothing and gave me a new car, the worst run operation I have ever exerienced

Was forced to purchase their insurance because I didn't have my auto insurance card with me. I did provide them the name of the carrier. Who carries their insurance card around with them? Whole thing Made no sense, and Felt like a money-grab. Car was late model but not super clean. Check out attendant was pleasant.

Person at desk was very rude. The drop off person was very nice. Car was way overpriced.
