I booked thru Kayak. That was my mistake. Despite the confirmation email and the app saying my pick up location was CLE airport location. Kayak scheduled it for Beechwood location and I had to pay $717 instead of $333 as promised in the app. I’ll never book thru Kayak again.

So I check in with Budget. They give me my folder with a space number on it. Go outside, but can't find that space in the Budget section. Had to find someone. Oh, that's actually a Hertz car -- they are over there. I know they are the "same" company -- why not act like one?

They could try not scamming people for an extra 500 dollar upgrade when you get a smaller SUV. They could train their employees to be a little more knowledgeable and how to answer questions. They claim at the counter they don’t have access to see what type of vehicle you are getting, like not even whether it is in fact an SUV or a car; like come on! Also throwing these third party services under the bus stating it may be why all of that happened 🤨 between the staff and other customers, maybe get directions from YOUR PHONE’S GPS because no one has the time to wait longer than necessary for these things while you map out the rest of your day with the counter!! It was just a total nuisance and I’m sure people less outspoken just pay for whatever they throw at them!

I was told to pick any car from the area marked “3” and when I did I was told I could not take that car because it was too new and had to take the one the person assigned.

I called to change my drop-off location and I asked if there out be a charge for returning it to the airport instead of the location I booked initially. The representative said there would be no charge, but I was charged an $10 anyway. Otherwise, the rental experience was okay

The lady that waited on us in Cleveland was nice, but things turned when she realized that they did not have any full size SUVs on the lot. She asked the other lady a question(I think it was if she could upgrade us) and she said no and they would have to call the spare lot to get another car pulled around. When they pulled the car around, it was not a full size SUV(what we paid for) so we had trouble fitting all of our stuff in the vehicle for our trip across the USA. Finally, the vehicle was in horrible shape. We had to put a child seat in the car and someone had rigged up the latches so our car seat wouldn’t work, the wipers were old and dry rotted(front and back), there were big spots all over the outside of the car where it looked like signs had been hung with duct tape, the windows were filthy where it was hard to see out of them at night with the glare of headlights from other cars, etc. I will be reaching out to Hertz directly as well, but I would highly recommend NOT renting from them.

The car was quite clean, but the fragrances of the cleansers they used were headache-inducing. I drove with the windows cracked and circulated fresh air for the first day. By Day 2 it was fine. Surely they could leave windows open after cleaning to let those odors air out?

Picked car up in Cleveland and dropped it in Toronto, Canada. I understand cross border drop offs may be a challenge but they had no idea what to do when we got to the drop off location so it took some extra time. That said, the Canadian agent was very nice and did his best to be quick and helpful.

The car was a little dirty in the outside— streaks on the glass made it hard to see out with the sun/glare. Returning the car the day of the snowstorm really slowed us down and we might have missed our flight. I would suggest speeding that part up if possible (more frequent shuttles etc).
