Reserved a car at a specific location online to get there and be told they don’t have any cars and to wait. Another person walks in and they say they have no cars and won’t be getting any. I was flabbergasted that I was literally told something different 5 minutes earlier. We were then directed to another location across town in hopes of getting a car there.

They ran out of cars and I had to wait 2 hours for a car to show up to fulfill my reservation.

This reservation was canceled because they overbooked. When I arrived at the location, around 20 people were in line and had been there for over an hour waiting for cars. The answer I received was, “we will have all cars by the end of the day.” I canceled this reservation and quickly headed to the train station. When I got to my destination, I booked through National. They are just way more reliable. I will not pick Avis again.

Good and nice car, comfortable. But it was delivered to me with 3/4 gas, and that was an issue when I returned. Also, the return location closed before the arrival time entered during the reservation, I had to find another location and wasted a lot of time to return the car.

I arrived at 9:45 AM to pick up the car that I booked for 10:00 AM and didn't get the keys until about noon. There was one employee covering both Avis and Budget at the downtown DC location, and he was working really hard and being very efficient, but he simply couldn't keep up. The gas tank in the car was not full, and, after driving about 100 easy miles, the oil light turned on shortly followed by the braking system light and several warnings about the lane departure prevention and adaptive cruise control systems. The agent at the CHO airport location was not remotely concerned about the state of the vehicle when I called and asked for advice. As a result of the late start and the slow, limping conclusion, I had to extend my time with the car and pay extra. I don't plan to rent through this service, Budget, or Avis ever again.

After I dropped off the car, Hertz for some reason did not register it as returned and I keep on getting threatening messages even after I called them and they confirmed that it was returned.

Very helpful staff but product was very poor. Car pickup was slow—agent was alone and very busy. Car was filthy, outside and in. Car had been smoked in. Car was old at 48,400 miles, and tired. Driver’s floor mat was worn out and ripped. Exit from hotel failed because the tickets supplied did not work causing a 30 minute delay. A dreadful experience with Hertz and the Washington Hilton

The car smelled of smoke! It was bad. But I needed the one way rental to get my daughter to FL after knee surgery. I cleaned the windows inside and out and fabrezzed the seats before we left DC. When the temperature was cooler the car was bearable but in the FL hear. It was awful 😞 The Nisan Rogue worked great and I was thankful for the car at the last minute.

Was able to rent a car for a time when Hertz was closed. One of the worst experiences I've ever had. Why in God's name are you able to reserve a vehicle when the location is closed for that time?

Kayak listed that the rental car was available but Hertz called me a few hours prior to pick-up to let me know that there were no available cars to rent. The website should not have listed the rentals as available.

There was no Dollar located at that location. Customer service is abysmal! They're completely incompetent. Kayak customer service is completely non existent! I will never be using Kayak.com or Dollar/Hertz/ Thrifty ever again. You guys really suck and ruined my trip to my sister's wedding!
